Curling Club Provincial Championship | Curling Québec Top Right Menu Curling Québec Curling Club Provincial Championship NEW THIS YEAR: Clubs are not limited to a single entry! Qualification Process Each team must register directly with CQ by completing the registration form which is available lower on this age and sending it to CQ by the pre-determined deadline – The registration fees for 2018-2019 are $200 (taxes included) per team; – Registration fees are payable upon Curling Quebec’s receipt of the registration form. Each region (12) must declare their qualifying team(s) by the deadline dates determined by CQ. Should one or more regions not be represented, the host region will be entitled to fill the first vacant “spot” available. The remaining vacant “spots” will, in turn, be given to the regions with the highest pro rata number of registrations. The qualification process in each region shall be at the discretion of the regional association. The Curling Canada Rules of Curling apply. All games are to be eight ends. In case of a tie after eight ends, teams will play extra ends until a winner is determined. Teams Twelve (12) men’s teams and twelve (12) women’s teams can participate in the Travelers Provincial Championship. The teams are qualified as follows: Côte-Nord Est-du-Québec Estrie Mauricie Montreal 1 Montreal 2 Montreal 3 Nord-Ouest Outaouais Quebec Saguenay/Lac St-Jean Sud-Ouest Championship Format Teams will be divided into four (4) pools of three (3). An intra-pool round robin will be played followed by an elimination round with four teams. The winning teams will represent Quebec at the Canadian Championship. Timeline Registration deadline February 25, 2019 Regional deadline March 18, 2019 Provincial Championship April 5-7, 2019 National Championship TBD Host site Curling des Collines Registration Fees $200 per team (tax included) Eligibility Requirements The curling club represented by each team must be affiliated with Curling Quebec and all dues must be paid in full. The players of any club team must be members in good standing of their affiliated curling club. Canadian citizenship is not a requirement. All four (4) players must be residents of Quebec Any player can be a member of more than one affiliated curling club, but must declare one “home club” for this competition. Teams must qualify under one of the following conditions: a) Regular league play b) A club championship process c) A designated Curling Club Championship within the club d) Teams must have three (3) or more players who have played together in a sanctioned club league during the current curling season. e) Clubs that only have mixed or open leagues (i.e. no men’s or women’s teams) may be granted an exemption to Rule 5.d) by written request to Curling Quebec. The use of the delivery stick by any or all four players (and any alternate) is acceptable subject to the rules under Curling Canada’s Rules of curling. Once a 4-person team registers for the championship playdowns, a maximum of one (1) replacement player from the club is allowed. The replacement player must play lead (throwing and sweeping) and must be an active member in good standing of the affiliated curling club. If the qualification process includes a number of steps before declaring a champion, then the team may add a different spare at each level provided they play lead and are a member in good standing of the affiliated club. Teams who play exclusively in a major/super league – where teams from more than one club compete – are ineligible for the Curling Club Championships unless the team also competes in another eligible league in an affiliated club. Each team will be allowed one (1) “elite” player who : a) has played in an named Curling Canada event in the current year or the previous 2 seasons; b) has finished in the top 3 of any provincial championship leading to a Curling Canada event in the current year or the previous 2 seasons c) has played in a Tier 1 Grand Slam event in the current year or the previous 2 seasons d) Definition: Curling Canada events include: Mixed, Canada Cup, U-21, Scotties, Brier, seniors, mixed doubles, university, college, U-18. e) Example: Craig Savill plays in a Wednesday night league with three friends but he also represented Ontario at the Brier with his elite team. Craig and his Wednesday night team of friends are eligible for the Curling Club Championships. However, the other three (3) team members of Craig’s Wednesday team cannot have: i) Finished in the top three (3) at any provincial event leading to a national championship in the current year or the past two (2) years (Tankard, Scotties, senior, mixed, mixed doubles, U-21, U-18) ii) Participated in any Tier 1 Grand Slam event in the current year and the past two (2) years. Alternate players at the Brier and Scotties tournament of hearts or any other Curling Canada event are not considered participants at those events. Players who competed in the previous season’s National Curling Club Championship are ineligible to compete the following year at any level of the qualification process. Each team must be comprised of three (3) players that are a minimum of 19 years of age as of June 30th the year prior to the national championship. For example, a player must be 19 years of age on June 30th, 2019 for the November 2019 national event. Any team will be allowed one (1) player under the age of 19 years of age whom shall be considered a “minor” and must be accompanied by a legal guardian (or a chaperone identified by the legal guardian) for the duration of the event including departure from home and return to their home. A legal guardian can be a parent on the team. The team is responsible to cover all costs associated with a legal guardian who is not a team member.
