<div class="field field-name-field-news-date field-type-datetime field-label-hidden field-wrapper"><span class="date-display-single" property="dc:date" datatype="xsd:dateTime" content="2017-04-04T00:00:00-06:00">Tuesday, April 4, 2017</span></div><div class="body field"><p>Curling Canada <a href="http://www.ccaa.ca/sports/curl/2016-17/releases/curling_2018" target="_blank">recently announced</a> that the City of Leduc will be hosting four national curling championships next spring, from March 24 – April 1, 2018. The four curling events will be hosted at the Leduc Recreation Centre’s twin arenas (Ken’s Furniture Arena and the Robinson Arena) and BMO Centre curling facility.</p>
<p>The curling championships will also be part of the Leduc Curling Club’s 100th anniversary celebrations.</p>
<p>“We are very pleased to be the host for this ground-breaking event,” said City of Leduc Mayor Greg Krischke. “The City has a proud history of curling excellence and hosting major events, and it’s fitting for this event to occur during the 100th anniversary of the BMO Curling Centre.”</p>
<p>2017-2018 is the Leduc Curling Club’s centennial season. Activities are planned throughout the season to celebrate this milestone. This 'mega-event' is unique in a number of ways:</p>
<ul class="rteindent1"><li>It will be the first time Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) national men’s and women’s championships for colleges and institutes will be staged in cooperation with Curling Canada;</li>
<li>The CCAA national event will be held in tandem with the USPORTS University Championships;</li>
<li>Wheelchair Curling; and</li>
<li>The Canadian Mixed Doubles Championship - a new discipline gaining a lot of momentum worldwide!</li>
</ul><p>“We chose The City of Leduc as a site for Curling Canada events following our first site visit while the LRC was under construction,” said Danny Lamoureux, Curling Canada, Curling Club Development & Championship Series. “We knew this building would work very well for a number of our events because of the comprehensive facilities, the proximity to the airport, and the many great hotels."</p>
