It is a great event with lots of fun for the whole family. Last year, in its 18<sup>th</sup> year, Ribfest raised approximately $330,000 with proceeds donated to many community programs and organizations including academic scholarships, donations to local food banks, and Joseph Brant Hospital. To date Canada’s Largest Ribfest has raised over $2.6 million dollars for the community.</p> <p>Ribfest is one of the biggest community events in Burlington. Each year during Ribfest weekend we attract over 150,000 visitors and this an opportunity for us to showcase our downtown, our beautiful waterfront, and our community pride.</p> <p><strong><a title="Canada's Largest Ribfest 100% Green Program" href="http://www.canadaslargestribfest.com/about.php?page=green" target="_blank">Rotary has worked hard to create an eco-friendly event.</a></strong></p> <p><strong> </strong>In 2011, Festivals and Events <a href="http://www.canadaslargestribfest.com/about.php?page=green" target="_blank"><img class="alignright size-medium wp-image-2101" alt="Green Ribfest" src="http://www.burlingtonmayor.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/Greening-Ribfest-300x105.jpg" width="300" height="105" srcset="http://www.burlingtonmayor.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/Greening-Ribfest-300x105.jpg 300w, http://www.burlingtonmayor.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/Greening-Ribfest-500x176.jpg 500w, http://www.burlingtonmayor.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/Greening-Ribfest.jpg 780w" sizes="(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px" /></a>Ontario awarded Canada’s Largest Ribfest the “Best Greening of a Festival or Event” award as a result of the excellence in waste diversion and for using 100% recyclable materials for the event.</p> <p>All proceeds from Ribfest are used to support charitable causes locally, nationally and internationally. Locally, Burlington’s Rotary Clubs contribute to supportive housing, food banks and have committed to raising $1 million for the expansion and redevelopment of Joseph Brant Hospital. This year Rotary started the first <a title="Python's Pit" href="http://pythonspit.ca/" target="_blank"><strong>Python’s Pit</strong></a> entrepreneur competition (a Dragon’s Den-inspired event) to showcase young entrepreneurs and high school students. Internationally, Rotary has been involved in programs to <strong><a title="Rotary End Polio" href="http://www.rotary.org/en/end-polio" target="_blank">end Polio</a></strong> around the world, have coordinated the donation of firetrucks to communities in need, and many other international initiatives.</p> <p>Rotary is just one example of the many active service clubs that do so much for our community. Service clubs are a vital element of a vibrant city and community spirit.
