All their sauces are signature sauces; you can’t get them in stores. Once people taste the ribs, it’s like none other.” Ontario Festival Group said it selected the continent’s best rib teams to participate in Owen Sound Ribfest. They are: Billy Bones BBQ from Brewton, Alabama; Camp 31 from Fort Erie, Ont.; Pistol Pete’s Oklahoma Smokehouse from Vancouver, B.C.; Sticky Fingers BBQ from Castleberry, Ala.; and Texas Rangers BBQ from Denton, Tex. The eighth annual Owen Sound Ribfest is set to run from 5 to 11 p.m. Friday, noon to 11 p.m. Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday in the parking lot of the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre. Admission is $3 for people aged 13 and older and free for children 12 and under. Weekend activities include a rib-eating contest Saturday at 4:30 p.m. and a rib team awards ceremony Sunday at 3:30 p.m. There will be a marketplace with a variety of vendors throughout the weekend as well as additional food and beverage booths, face-painting and a Kids Zone. People can also try parasailing for a fee. Aside from the ribs, the live music during the festival is another big draw, Brooks said. There will be a Country Music Night Friday, featuring tributes to Jason Aldean, Blue Rodeo and Toby Keith as well as a performance by Owen Sound musician Andrew Litt. Rock Night is set for Saturday and includes tributes to Bon Jovi and Nickleback. Sunday’s lineup will be capped off with an Elton John tribute. Brooks said the Owen Sound Ribfest is the last event on Ontario Festival Group’s 2018 schedule, which included similar events in Alliston, Collingwood, Wasaga Beach, Innisfil and Haliburton. He said it’s been an excellent year for the event production company. “We’ve had favourable weather; a couple of days have been quite hot. But it’s been great to travel around to different cities and different towns and bringing ribs and seeing the community come together and giving people something fun to do in their hometown,” he said.
