Opera Conference 2019 - Overview | Online Registration by Cvent Cookie Usage In accordance with the Cvent Privacy Policy, we use cookies to provide you with a great browsing experience. OPERA America's annual conference is the pre-eminent convening of opera company leaders, artists, trustees and volunteers, and other industry stakeholders. With our colleagues at the San Francisco Opera, we will explore major issues that are shaping the art form, our business strategies and our place in civic life. Examining Traditions. Traditions provide constancy and comfort and, in opera, have shaped a canon of masterpieces and collection of performance practices that define the art form for many ticket buyers and donors. Examining traditions is also part of operaâs history and has advanced the art form from the 17th century to the 21st. Presentations and discussions will reveal the ways companies are reinterpreting the repertoire, adjusting practices and introducing new ideas that contribute to the evolution of the art form. Exploring Business Innovation. The Bay Area is a wellspring of innovation that has changed the world with new technologies, as well as new models for invention and management. Entrepreneurial leaders have embraced rapid change, intensified connection to purpose and welcomed new voices into the creative process. Sessions will explore how new and disruptive practices can lead to transformation in the opera business. Deepening Civic Practice. Opera has the potential to enrich lives and strengthen communities as people with different experiences overcome the isolation of technology and gather together to explore the emotions and insights of shared human stories. The civic fabric can be strengthened further when opera companies establish strong, long-lasting and mutually beneficial relationships with partners to bridge divisions and address shared priorities. Sessions in this cluster will demonstrate the power of authentic connections to shape the art form, strengthen our companies and improve the cities we serve.
