Photo by Randall Cook 1,500 Musicians at 40 Locations In its 30+ year history, the TD Toronto Jazz Festival has become known as one of North America’s premier jazz festivals. Ten days of performances at 40 locations around Toronto offer a range of styles of music and venues from funky bars to elegant halls. In 2018, the festival is centred in the Yorkville area for the second year. With walkable streets, several open air stages and plenty of cafes and restaurants in the area, it’s an ideal spot to take in an afternoon or evening of music during the summer. Major headline acts include Herbie Hancock on June 29 at the Sony Centre, Gregory Porter June 25 at the Elgin Theatre and local favourite, Holly Cole on June 28 at Trinity-St. Paul’s Centre. This year there’s also a JUNO Award focus with a showcase of acts who either won or were nominated this past year. The Canadian acts featured represent a range of cultures and musical styles, in true Toronto fashion. On June 30 (the day before Canada Day!) see the Shirantha Beddage Quartet, Autorickshaw, Hilario Duran, Andrew Downing and more.
